Scholarly indicators are useful, but they should always be interpreted within the context of the database and the nature of the research.
Different databases may report different numbers.
Citation totals, h-index values and publication counts can differ between Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science and other scholarly databases because each platform uses different indexing coverage, document types and citation policies.
Metrics should therefore be interpreted as indicators of scholarly activity rather than complete measures of scientific quality. Research value also depends on methodological rigor, reproducibility, originality, responsible reporting, collaboration and the usefulness of the evidence generated.
