Md Shimul Bhuia is a Bangladeshi educator, researcher, scientific author and academic entrepreneur. He currently serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at Khwaja Yunus Ali University, Sirajganj, Bangladesh, where his work combines university teaching, academic mentoring and scientific research.
His academic interests are rooted primarily in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences, particularly drug discovery and development, natural products, pharmacology, preclinical research and computational approaches. His work integrates experimental and computational perspectives and increasingly extends into multidisciplinary collaboration and evidence-based investigation of health-related questions.
He has published more than 100 scientific research articles in international journals. For him, however, research is not simply a means of increasing publication numbers. He considers it a process of asking meaningful questions, generating reliable evidence, critically interpreting findings and communicating knowledge responsibly so that research can ultimately contribute to scientific progress and human welfare.
Beyond individual research, he serves as Advisor and Deputy Director of BioLuster Research Center Ltd.. In these roles, he contributes to research direction, academic activities, collaborative initiatives, researcher development and scientific mentorship. The organization also provides an environment where emerging and experienced researchers can exchange knowledge, develop research capabilities and participate in multidisciplinary scientific work.
Education should become increasingly accessible beyond financial, geographical, social and conventional classroom barriers.
This philosophy is also reflected in his role as a Co-founder of BioLuster Academy. The initiative is intended not only to provide conventional online courses, but also to explore how digital education can create meaningful learning opportunities for students, researchers and people who may have been excluded from traditional education because of financial, geographical, social or other limitations.
Scientific and educational writing forms another important part of his work. He is the author of an English-language scientific book and views writing as an extension of teaching—a way for research methods, scientific concepts and academic knowledge to continue reaching learners beyond the physical presence of a teacher or author.
He is also a Co-founder of eOkkhor, an initiative associated with publishing, digital content, educational resources and wider knowledge dissemination. Through such initiatives, he is interested in connecting traditional publishing and educational resources with digital technologies so that intellectual and learning materials can reach broader communities.
Since 2024, he has also been involved as a Co-founder of BioLuster Research Center Ltd. Publishing. Its long-term objective is to contribute to the development of credible, internationally oriented open-access scientific publishing from Bangladesh, emphasizing scientific quality, responsible editorial practice, publication ethics, rigorous peer review, transparency, international publishing standards and broad accessibility to research.
Across teaching, research, writing, collaboration, publishing and educational initiatives, one principle remains central: knowledge should not remain restricted to laboratories, universities, books, journals or those who can afford access to it. Research becomes more meaningful when it benefits people, education becomes more powerful when barriers to learning are reduced, and scientific knowledge becomes more valuable when it is responsibly communicated and made accessible.
His broader aspiration is to use education, research, scientific communication and accessible knowledge as instruments for human development and social progress. Through classrooms, research collaborations, scientific publications, books, open-access journals and digital learning platforms, he aims to help create systems through which people can learn, research, collaborate, publish and grow.

From foundational science to professional pharmacy education and research-oriented postgraduate training.
Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm)
He earned his M.Pharm from Gopalganj Science and Technology University, formerly known as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University. The 1.5-year program comprised three semesters and combined advanced pharmaceutical education with intensive postgraduate research training.
The research-focused final semester became a defining stage of his academic development. Under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Torequl Islam, he completed the thesis “Pharmacological Prospections of trans-Ferulic Acid Using Different Preclinical Approaches.”
The project involved pharmacological and preclinical investigation of trans-ferulic acid and strengthened his experience in experimental investigation, research methodology, scientific data analysis, interpretation, academic writing, natural-product research and the integration of experimental and computational approaches.
Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)
He completed the four-year, eight-semester professional B.Pharm program from the same department. His education covered pharmacology, medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy and natural products, pharmaceutical analysis, biochemistry, microbiology, physiology and related biomedical sciences.
The program provided the multidisciplinary scientific foundation for his later postgraduate education, research activities and professional work in pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.
An important part of his undergraduate professional development was industrial exposure at Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., where he gained practical insight into pharmaceutical production, quality-related activities, warehouse management and broader industrial operations.
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
He completed his Higher Secondary Certificate in the Science Group and achieved a GPA of 5.00 out of 5.00. This stage strengthened his foundation in the fundamental sciences and prepared him for subsequent professional education in pharmacy and biomedical science.
Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
He completed his Secondary School Certificate in the Science Group with a GPA of 5.00 out of 5.00. This stage marked the formal beginning of his academic journey in science and established the foundation for his later higher education.
Together, these stages represent a progression from fundamental science to professional pharmacy education and research-oriented postgraduate training. The combination of academic study, laboratory exposure, pharmaceutical training and postgraduate investigation ultimately established the foundation for his work in university teaching, scientific research, drug discovery, collaboration and academic writing.

Research Experience
His M.Pharm thesis, “Pharmacological Prospections of trans-Ferulic Acid Using Different Preclinical Approaches,” was conducted under Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Torequl Islam. The project began with literature evaluation and toxicity assessment using the Allium cepa biomonitoring system and progressed to preclinical investigation of trans-ferulic acid.
His experimental work included anxiolytic, sedative, anticonvulsant, antiemetic, antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory evaluations. Computational investigation included molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation and in-silico assessment of pharmacokinetic and toxicity properties.
This period also provided experience in study design, adaptation of experimental approaches, data interpretation, research documentation and working with undergraduate researchers.

He completed an industrial internship at Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Tongi, Bangladesh.
The internship provided exposure to pharmaceutical products and manufacturing processes, quality-control activities, warehouse and materials management and broader processes associated with pharmaceutical production and drug development.

National Science and Technology Fellowship
Awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
